Four alternative Christmas cards that celebrate the magic of nature in winter. You get two of each card.
Winter Solstice card depicts four friends asleep underground, the sun shines it's light in the burrow, reminding them of warm days to come. The message on the back is a short poem about winter solstice, when the sun seems to stand still for three days. An elder tree sits just above their burrow protecting them. The elder is the ogham tree associated with December. It is a tree of protection.
On the back there is a festive poem :
“For three days the sun stands still,
It marks the Winter Solstice’s chill.
Under the elder tree, dreams take flight,
In the silence of the longest night.
Wishing you a happy festive season”
The Woodland card shows a fox in a native broadleaf wood looking up into the stars. It's friends have borrowed under ground. The back of the card describes the importance of our woodlands. The text on the back reads:
“Just as we form communities and kinships within the places we live, a forest can also be seen as a community. It is a dynamic interwoven and connected ecosystem. Native trees of different age groups and species’ roots form a network with mycelium fungi. Carbon is swapped for nutrients. The trees provide food and habitat for many species of lichen, invertebrate, birds, mammals and fungi. Their leaves compost down into the soil creating healthy humus for wildflowers, small shrubs and fungi to emerge. The soil is also food and a home for the many bacteria and creatures who live underground. Even in the silence of winter when the trees are leafless there is still activity.”
The cards are 140x140 mm and they come with craft envelopes. All are made from recycled paper and printed in Ireland. Illustrated and designed by me. They are intended to be framed after use.
