I was interested in the meditation of sitting like a mountain and imagining one’s body as a mountain. What animals live on the mountain? What shape is the mountain? Are there trees? The mountain becomes a living breathing thing. It is no longer just a combination of rock but contains spirit.
This is one of my favorite grounding meditations. It reminds us of our own strength and it’s a nice way to do a body scan in a traditional sitting posture. We breathe, ground down into Earth, imagine our crowns connecting to the sky and out into the cosmos. We may also consider the ecology of an actual mountain and the habitat it provides for creatures, trees plants, fungi and microorganisms that live on it. This practice takes us away from our own being and helps us to drop into another being and it’s importance in this world.
Many traditions use the metaphor of the cloud passing over, mirroring our own internal weather systems. The mountain can withstand any weather and always stays grounded and intentional.
*Please note that the frame in the photos does not come with the print. It’s in the photo to help to imagine what this looks like framed.
